From October 16th to 19th, Christian Aparicio, Director of the Higher Education Department of the Salvadoran Ministry of Education, led a delegation of 11 members to HEU for a four-day exchange and communication program. Vice President YU Zhiwen welcomed the guests in the conference room on the 8th floor of the Main Building.
YU warmly greeted the delegation and provided an overview of HEU. He emphasized the significant potential for collaboration and exchange between China and El Salvador in higher education. HEU is committed to win-win cooperation and long-term development, aiming to share its achievements and experiences in higher education reform with Salvadoran universities. He expressed hopes for establishing a lasting partnership, particularly in areas such as student exchange, teacher training, and Chinese language education, to enhance the educational standards of both nations and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
Christian Aparicio noted that China's education model is continuously innovating and achieving remarkable results. He expressed a desire to gain deeper insights into the education systems of Chinese universities during this visit, strengthen connections between educational institutions, and work together to enhance educational quality and deepen friendships between the two countries.
Relevant departments and college leaders from HEU presented their educational philosophies and initiatives, as well as the collaboration with the University of Southampton in establishing the Southampton Ocean Engineering Joint Institute at HEU.
The delegation visited the College of Shipbuilding Engineering, the College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering, the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, and the College of International Cooperative Education, engaging in meaningful discussions about potential cooperation.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 2018, China and El Salvador have made strides in educational cooperation.
In September 2024, Vice Minister of Education CHEN Jie led a delegation to El Salvador, where they signed a mutual recognition agreement for higher education degrees, marking a new chapter in their educational partnership. The Salvadoran delegation's visit is the first of its kind since the establishment of diplomatic relations and reflects the positive outcomes of discussions between the two heads of state. During their visit, HEU signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with six universities, including the University of Alberta and the University of Dr. Andrei Pallo.
