On October 18th, Fellow Marian Wiercigroch and Professor Ekaterina Pavlovskaia were appointed as visiting professors at our university. Vice President YU Zhiwen attended the ceremony, where he presented them with letters of appointment and university badges.
Professor Marian Wiercigroch, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Applied Dynamics Research and holds the Sixth Century Chair in Applied Dynamics at the University of Aberdeen. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and serves as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Mechanical Sciences. Additionally, he has been a panel member for the UK’s Research Excellence Framework. He has received numerous awards, including the Scottish Knowledge Exchange Champion Award, the Fulbright Senior Scholar Award, and an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the Technical University of Lodz in Poland.
Professor Ekaterina Pavlovskaia is currently the Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen and is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Her research focuses on structural mechanics modeling, particularly in areas such as novel resonance-enhanced drilling technology, rotor dynamics, and riser mechanics. She has published over 180 scientific papers, including more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has led over 30 research projects while chairing nearly 20 international conferences. Currently, she serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Sound and Vibration.
