The first ocean drilling vessel independently designed and built in China, the "Dream", was officially commissioned in Guangzhou on the 17th. President XI Jinping sent a congratulatory letter, extending warm congratulations.

The ultra-deep water scientific research vessel is known as the "crown" of the field of marine science. The first ocean drilling vessel in China, the "Dream", has a total weight of 33,000 tons, a length of 179.8 meters, a width of 32.8 meters, and a range of 15,000 nautical miles. It can work continuously at sea for 120 days and is currently the only drilling vessel in the world with the ability to drill 11,000 meters of ultra-deep water. It can help scientists achieve their dream of exploring the mysteries of the deep sea and exploring into the depths of the Earth.

The College of Shipbuilding Engineering's Ship and Ocean Platform Overall Technology Research Institute provided technical support,  such as process design solutions for the drilling platform and lunar pool, which are the most critical and technically difficult areas of the "Dream" ship. This greatly shortened the calculation cycle and effectively ensured the smooth construction and timely delivery of the "Dream" ship.

The satellite joint enhanced navigation technology team at the College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering equipped the drilling vessel with the Beidou navigation positioning system, ensuring the safety and reliability of deep-sea drilling and other operations, highlighting China's independent innovation capability in Beidou high-precision marine positioning equipment.

A group of alumni, including ZHANG Haibin, the chief designer of the "Dream" ocean drilling ship, and FENG Shiqing, the overall person in charge of related construction technology, who graduated from HEU, have contributed their wisdom and strength to the construction of the "Dream" ship.
