On December 9th, President SONG Yingdong, Vice President HAN Duanfeng, and Assistant to the President YIN Hang of Harbin Engineering University (HEU) led a delegation to Hainan. The purpose of the visit was to conduct in-depth research on scientific innovation, talent development, and other initiatives aimed at supporting the growth of the South China Sea Research Institute.
During their visit to Haikou, President SONG and his delegation met with YIN Libo, a member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee. The two sides discussed opportunities for deepening collaboration between the university and the province. YIN Libo praised HEU’s significant contributions in the fields of shipbuilding, marine engineering, and nuclear science. She emphasized Hainan's unique advantages in deep-sea exploration, breeding, and aerospace, and expressed optimism about leveraging the university’s expertise in scientific research and talent cultivation to foster mutually beneficial cooperation.
President SONG provided an overview of HEU’s growth and the development of the South China Sea Research Institute. He expressed a strong desire to further enhance cooperation with local authorities to contribute to the nation’s overall strength.
The delegation then traveled to Sanya City, where they met with WANG Qiyang, a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee, to discuss further collaboration.
WANG commended the university’s involvement in the development of the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and expressed hope for expanded cooperation in marine science, technology innovation, industrial upgrading, and talent development.
President SONG emphasized that HEU would leverage its technical expertise in deep-sea fields to foster top-tier talent in marine-related disciplines. He outlined plans to address cutting-edge marine technologies and support the implementation of scientific and technological advances. These efforts aim to drive deeper integration and collaborative development between the university and local partners in the marine science and technology sectors.
The discussion also included Vice Mayor FAN Weizheng of Sanya, as well as representatives from the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Administration, the Sanya Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and the Sanya Integration Office.
Later, President SONG and his delegation visited the Innovation Valley at Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City. There, they received detailed reports on the activities and achievements of the South China Sea Research Institute and engaged in discussions with faculty and students. President Song commended the institute’s progress and provided strategic guidance for its future direction. He outlined specific goals for the institute’s development, collaboration with local partners, industrial growth, and security measures.
