HEU Hosts the Second International Academic Symposium on International Chinese Language Education

From December 14th to 15th, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) hosted the Second International Academic Symposium on International Chinese Language Education, alongside the Heilongjiang Province International Chinese Education Regional Cooperation and Innovation Development Symposium. With the theme “International Chinese Education: Theory and Practice,” the event brought together over 200 distinguished scholars, experts, and students from China, Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam. Participants engaged in extensive discussions on emerging topics in international Chinese language education.

YU Zhiwen, Deputy President of HEU; WANG Shaosong, from the Provincial Department of Education's Division of International Cooperation and Exchanges; and LIU Xiaolong, Deputy General Manager of Hankao International Education Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

YU Zhiwen emphasized that HEU is committed to development driven by academic disciplines, focusing on achieving excellence, promoting high-level educational openness, and advancing the global reach of the Chinese language. He expressed hope that the symposium would provide scholars with a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, explore cutting-edge theories and trends in international Chinese education, and contribute to the field’s high-quality development, as well as the shared vision of building a global community with a common future.

WANG Shaosong stated that as globalization advances, the international prominence of the Chinese language has grown, creating unprecedented opportunities for international Chinese education. He noted that Heilongjiang Province has developed numerous platforms for international exchange and has earned widespread recognition for its educational outreach, particularly to the north. He encouraged experts to engage in meaningful discussions to develop new ideas, models, and future directions for international Chinese education, helping to further invigorate its dynamic growth.

LIU Xiaolong highlighted the role of international Chinese education in using the Chinese language as a medium, facilitating exchange, and bridging cultures. He emphasized the importance of spreading positive messages about China and telling compelling Chinese stories. Liu also announced that the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Hankao International Education Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., would continue to deepen partnerships with universities, enhance exchanges, and provide more targeted and effective educational services to global Chinese learners, contributing to the steady progress of international Chinese education.
