The 5th Working Meeting of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Marine Engineering Majors and the 2nd Meeting of the Ideological and Political Alliance for Higher Education in Marine and Shipbuilding Disciplines

On January 18th, the 5th working meeting of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Marine Engineering Majors in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education, along with the 2nd working meeting of the Ideological and Political Alliance for Higher Ship and Sea Colleges, took place in Jiangxi. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from 35 universities across China gathered to exchange insights on the theoretical and practical aspects of ideological and political courses for maritime and marine engineering majors. SONG Yingdong, President of Harbin Engineering University (HEU), attended the meeting and delivered the opening speech.

The meeting was organized by Harbin Engineering University and hosted by the Teaching Guidance Committee for Marine Engineering Majors. Key attendees included LI Huajun, Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); HONG Bixia, Secretary of the Wuning County Party Committee; and WANG Junli, Secretary General of the China Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (CSNAME).

ZHAO Yuxin, Vice President of HEU, presided over the meeting.

In his speech, SONG Yingdong emphasized that HEU would actively engage in the activities of the alliance, working to build and share high-quality resources with partner universities. He also stressed the importance of cultivating top-tier, innovative talent in the fields of shipbuilding and marine engineering, contributing significantly to China’s maritime industry.

WU Shugang, Executive Vice County Mayor of Wuning County, also addressed the audience during the meeting.

LI Huajun delivered an online speech, in which he read out the "Wuning Consensus."

WANG Junli, in his remarks, highlighted the growing demand for highly skilled professionals in the fields of shipbuilding and ocean engineering. He expressed hope that the relevant sectors of the maritime industry would collaborate to improve employment opportunities for graduates in these fields.

President SONG Yingdong awarded alliance certificates to representatives from several universities, including Beijing Institute of Technology, Bohai University, Qingdao Huanghai University, Shandong Jiaotong University, Shanghai Maritime University, and Wuhan University of Technology, who had recently joined the alliance.

The HEU Jiangxi Alumni Association made a generous donation to support the development of the curriculum alliance at their alma mater.

Keynote speeches were given by various leaders, including SONG Yingdong, JI Chunyan, President of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology; FU Shixiao, Dean of the School of Ship Ocean and Architecture Engineering at Shanghai Maritime University; PAN Guang, Dean of the School of Navigation at Northwestern Polytechnical University; LIANG Bingchen, Dean of the School of Engineering at Ocean University of China; ZHANG Guiyong, Dean of the School of Ship Engineering at Dalian University of Technology; and DU Zunfeng, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture Engineering at Tianjin University. These speeches focused on topics such as the reform of talent cultivation in ship and ocean engineering, the development of a curriculum system for marine engineering in the digital age, and strategies for establishing first-class undergraduate education in maritime disciplines.
