On March 5, a nine-member delegation led by XU Yong, Vice President of South China University of Technology (SCUT), visited Harbin Engineering University (HEU). The discussion centered on key topics such as graduate student enrollment reform, the graduate scholarship and financial aid system, the development of professional degrees, and faculty team building. Vice President ZHAO Yuxin of HEU participated in the discussion and exchange session.

ZHAO Yuxin welcomed the delegation from the South China University of Technology and provided a brief overview of HEU’s educational history, disciplinary strengths, and core approaches to talent development. He noted that as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, SCUT has long been at the forefront of enhancing the quality of doctoral candidates and cultivating exceptional engineers. Notably, SCUT’s innovative approaches in mentor development, dynamic degree program adjustments, and industry-academia collaborative education models have set important benchmarks for higher education institutions across China, offering valuable insights for the advancement of HEU’s graduate education.

XU Yong briefly introduced the history and educational characteristics of South China University of Technology, along with its contributions to regional development. He emphasized that Harbin Engineering University stands out for its distinctive educational focus, having trained a large number of high-level professionals in shipbuilding, maritime, and nuclear industries. In recent years, HEU has explored innovative talent cultivation models through platforms such as the National Outstanding Engineer College and Longjiang Engineer College. These initiatives, which integrate industry-education and science-education collaborations, provide valuable examples for reference. XU expressed his hope that both universities would deepen exchanges and cooperation in disciplinary development and talent cultivation, aiming to nurture more engineers with both professional excellence and strong ethical values.
