After 18 days of intensive preparation and 6 days of fierce competition, the competitive robot team of Harbin Engineering University (HEU) won the championship in the Bionic Legged Robot Race, the first prize in the Bionic Legged Robot Cross-Country Race, and the second prize in the Obstacle Race at the 24th National College Student Robot Competition ROBOCON. They also claimed 6 awards including the second prizes in the main track's Robot Basketball Competition, Shooting Skill Competition, and Ball Passing/Conveying Skill Competition.

The main track of this ROBOCON event is themed "Leaping Layup", inspired by basketball. Participating teams use 2 robots to cooperate in simulating basketball tasks such as dribbling breakthroughs, accurate shooting, and blocking defense, which comprehensively tests the robots' mobility, team tactical coordination, and engineering innovation capabilities. The sub-track features equestrian-style competitions, with bionic legged robots competing in races, obstacle courses, and cross-country races, demonstrating precise and flexible motion control and structural stability, as well as testing team collaboration.

The competition involves multidisciplinary knowledge including mechanics, electronics, control, and computer science, requiring collaboration among students from different majors. After repeated trial and error, the school's competitive robot team came up with the idea of utilizing the enormous energy generated by compressed air. They installed 6 cylinders evenly distributed on the base, using the recoil force to make the robot jump 1 meter high to complete a dunk and land stably. DUAN Wenlin, captain of the competitive robot team, believes that the process of preparing for the competition is more important than the result.

During the competition, more than 20 alumni representatives from the school's Wuxi Alumni Association came to the scene to watch the competition and cheer for their alma mater's team.

The National College Student Robot Competition ROBOCON, launched in 2002, has become the most technically challenging and influential college student robot competition in China.
