On August 9, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) held the Innovation and Development Conference for the School of Economics and Management in the multifunctional hall of the Qihang Activity Center. GAO Yan, Secretary of the University Party Committee, attended the event and delivered a speech.

In his address, GAO Yan outlined three expectations for the school’s future development: First, closely align with the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, demonstrating renewed commitment to cultivating top-tier innovative talent. Second, further elevate the discipline’s standing, forging new advantages in serving the “Double First-Class” initiative. Third, deepen the integration of economic and management theories with the practices of Chinese modernization, showcasing new contributions in serving national development. He expressed hope that the school would seize this conference as an opportunity to uphold its pursuit of “creating knowledge, nurturing elites, serving industries, and contributing to society”, accelerating high-quality innovation and development across all endeavors from a new starting point.

WANG Jian, Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), delivered a speech as a representative of peer institutions. He fondly recalled the collaborative tradition of the two schools as “close neighbors and deep brotherly bonds”, congratulating the achievements of the School of Economics and Management over the past four decades. He noted that both institutions are rooted in Heilongjiang and share a heritage of national defense and industry, expressing hope for strengthened connectivity to jointly nurture future talent, scale scientific research heights, fulfill Heilongjiang’s mission, and create an open ecosystem.

SHI Wei, Dean of the Excellence Engineer Institute of China International Engineering Consulting Corporation (CIECC), spoke as a representative of collaborative partners. He stated that since their partnership began in 2011, HEU alumni have become key contributors to the company’s growth. He proposed deepening strategic ties across four areas: co-cultivating high-end engineering management talent, joint scientific research, industry-education integration, and resource sharing.
CHEN Heng, Dean of the School of Economics and Management, presented a development report. He emphasized that the school will uphold its mission with the original aspiration of inheritors, drive reform with the courage of pioneers, and pursue excellence with the determination of strivers—cultivating industry elites and contributing new management knowledge.

She reviewed the school’s four-decade journey of remarkable achievements through generations of collective effort, urging faculty and students to carry forward the fine traditions, remain true to their original aspiration and mission, scale new heights in disciplinary frontiers, and contribute further to national development.
