
On 17 August, the “Hua Luogeng Scientist Spirit” Forum was held at the Teachers’ Salon as part of the 27th China Management Science Academic Conference. The forum highlighted the inheritance of the scientist spirit and its contemporary significance, adding depth and historical resonance to the conference theme, “Empowering Management Science with Digital Intelligence.”

LU Kaidong, Director of the University’s Publicity Department, emphasized that the “Hua Luogeng Spirit,” the “Harbin Military Engineering Institute Spirit,” and the “Daqing Spirit (Iron Man Spirit)” form an essential part of the backbone of the Chinese national spirit. He expressed hope that through dialogue and exchange, these spiritual strengths could be transformed into practical momentum for advancing management science.

LI Hong, Director of the Harbin Military Engineering Institute Museum, delivered a report titled “The Essence and Contemporary Value of the Harbin Military Engineering Institute Spirit.” She outlined its core values—patriotism and dedication, rigor and pragmatism, unity and cooperation, and innovation and exploration—and explained their role in supporting national defense science and technology while cultivating outstanding talent.

WANG Lili, Director of the Daqing Spirit (Iron Man Spirit) Research Institute, presented a report titled “Practical Wisdom of Chinese Characteristics in Management from the Contemporary Implications of the Daqing Spirit (Iron Man Spirit).” She provided an in-depth analysis of the Daqing Spirit—characterized by hard work, seeking truth from facts, and striving for excellence—and its connection to management models with Chinese characteristics.

CHI Hong, a researcher at the Institutes of Science and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, reviewed the major contributions of Hua Luogeng as a pioneer in Chinese applied mathematics and management science. He stressed that the Hua Luogeng Spirit continues to serve as an important guiding principle for the development of management science in China.

Through historical reflection and academic exchange, the forum brought the Hua Luogeng Spirit from the pages of history into contemporary practice. It provided new insights and platforms for educators to integrate this spirit into teaching and research, clarified pathways for leveraging spiritual heritage to drive disciplinary growth, and supported efforts to strengthen international cooperation, optimize academic programs, cultivate talent aligned with national needs, and advance high-quality research outcomes.
