On September 20, Harbin Engineering University (HEU), in collaboration with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Editorial Office of the Archive for Legal Methodology of China University of Political Science and Law, hosted the inaugural Forum on Understanding Legal Studies on campus. The forum, guided by the theme “Clarifying Law with Reason, Practicing with Insight,” consisted of three main segments: thesis evaluations, academic lectures, and thematic exchanges.

During the thesis evaluation session, LIU Moru and WU Guobang delivered speeches on behalf of the organizing bodies. After a rigorous preliminary review, nine undergraduate and graduate students were selected to present their research for the final evaluation. The selected thesis topics addressed pressing issues in digital law, including the private power of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, digital platform monopolies, and the ethical review of AI technologies. Following detailed questioning and expert feedback, six theses emerged as winners, earning the First Prize and a Scholarship, funded with a total of 30,000 yuan by the Editorial Office of Archive for Legal Methodology.

In the academic lecture segment, Associate Professor ZHAO Jingwu from Beihang University’s School of Law presented a lecture titled The Application Path of Personal Information Protection Impact Assessment in the Context of Face Swiping Technology.

The thematic exchange session featured journal editors who shared insights from their own experiences. They provided comprehensive answers to questions from faculty and students regarding thesis topics, research methodologies, academic standards, and publication strategies. This exchange helped clarify common challenges faced in academic writing and provided practical guidance for developing legal theses.

Focusing on the evolving field of digital law, the forum responded to the growing need for the integration of modern governance and intelligent technology. By fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration between universities and academic journals, the event established a new platform for academic resource sharing and the alignment of talent development mechanisms. This initiative is a significant step for HEU in advancing the construction of new liberal arts and exploring the role of digital empowerment in legal education.
