From October 25 to 26, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) held the finals of the 16th “Starter Cup” College Student Innovation and Creativity Competition. After intense competition, the College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering won the “Starter Cup”. President YIN Jingwei and Deputy Party Secretary LI Rongsheng attended the closing ceremony.

YIN Jingwei congratulated all the winning units and individuals. He shared three hopes with the participating students: First, to dare to imagine – to think boldly, explore actively, and challenge conventions on the path of technological innovation. Second, to apply themselves diligently – translating innovative ideas into tangible actions, gaining experience, and enhancing their capabilities through practical training. Third, to collaborate effectively – actively communicating and cooperating with others, combining complementary strengths to jointly tackle scientific challenges. He expressed his hope that students would scale new heights in science and contribute their wisdom and strength to national development, demonstrating the courage to imagine, the perseverance to work hard, and the power of collaboration on the “Starter Cup” stage.
Since its launch in September, this year’s “Starter Cup” received a record 1,533 entries, setting new highs in both participant numbers and project submissions. The competition featured a “poster presentation + public defense” format, which enhanced project visibility. Each participating team was also paired with an experienced innovation guide, helping students broaden their horizons and develop creative thinking.

Five projects, including “Design and Motion Control Research of a Bionic Cormorant Robot,” received the “Boundless Imagination” Creativity Award. Sixty-seven entries, such as “A Fusion Configuration Robot for Subsea Pipeline Inspection,” were awarded First Prize. One hundred and seventeen projects, including “Development and Application of a Digital Twin Wind Tunnel: A Review of Cutting-Edge Literature,” won Second Prize, and 238 entries, like “Current Status Review of Reactor Core Flow Blockage Issues,” received Third Prize. The “Outstanding Organization Award” was presented to the College of Shipbuilding Engineering, the College of Aerospace and Civil Engineering, the College of Power and Energy Engineering, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, and the Sino-Foreign Joint Institute.
The “Starter Cup” was first launched in 2009 and has now been held for 16 years. Guided by the principle of “Unlimited Creativity, Gathering Dreams to Set Sail; Striving in the Present, Illuminating the Future,” the competition primarily targets lower-year students, aiming to cultivate their innovative mindset, enhance their innovation capabilities, and foster a vibrant atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship.
