From November 14 to 17, the 13th Symposium on Innovation in Sci-Tech Journal Development was held, focusing on the theme “Exploring Mechanisms and Policies for the Innovative Development of Sci-Tech Journals.” WEI Junmin, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Scientific Journals Editing, YIN Hang, Assistant President of Harbin Engineering University (HEU), and REN Zhiyong, President of the Heilongjiang Periodicals Association, attended the opening ceremony and delivered addresses.

WEI Junmin stated that sci-tech journals serve as vital platforms for gathering cutting-edge scientific information and literature resources. He emphasized that the Chinese Society of Scientific Journals Editing consistently prioritizes enhancing the professional competence of editorial teams and provides a platform for editors to learn, improve, and exchange insights. Moving forward, the Society will continue to advance the discipline of editing studies, focus on talent cultivation, and contribute expertise and resources to the high-quality development of China’s sci-tech journals.

In his address, YIN Hang outlined HEU’s development history and achievements in education. He expressed that the university remains committed to serving national strategic needs, viewing journal development as a key initiative to support disciplinary growth and optimize the academic ecosystem. HEU is deeply implementing a top-tier journal cultivation plan to continuously enhance the academic quality and influence of its journals. He hopes that the in-depth discussions among experts and scholars at the symposium will pool academic wisdom and provide robust support for journal development and academic innovation.

REN Zhiyong noted that cultivating world-class sci-tech journals has become a consensus within the publishing community. He hopes this symposium will further unite industry efforts, promote collaborative innovation in content, channels, and technology for sci-tech journals nationwide, build a healthy ecosystem, and support the scaling, digitalization, and internationalization of journals.

The symposium featured four thematic sessions. During the group discussions, participants exchanged views on twelve specific topics, with representatives from each group subsequently reporting their discussion outcomes.
