Full Coverage of Sports, Faculty members, Students and Alumni Compete Together: Sports Meeting Shines for All

On May 24, the 49th Track and Field Sports Meeting of Harbin Engineering University (HEU) was held at the North Stadium. YIN Jingwei, President of HEU, YAO Zhen, Deputy Party Secretary, ZHANG Shimei, Deputy Party Secretary, ZHAO Yuxin, Vice President, LI Rongsheng, Deputy Party Secretary, and LÜ Kaidong, Director of the Publicity Department attended the opening ceremony.

Opening Ceremony with Many Highlights

The sports meeting kicked off with a sports dance performed by 260 students from 17 colleges.

After the solemn flag-raising ceremony, YIN Jingwei delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He recalled that at the founding of the PLA Military Engineering Institute, President CHEN Geng emphasized that “strengthening physical exercise is an important condition to ensure the smooth completion of teaching tasks.” Over more than 70 years of inheritance, valuing sports and advocating health have been integrated into the mind of HEUer. Standing at a historical starting point, HEU has put forward the concept of “full health coverage” and vigorously advocated “all-person sports” to make health a daily routine for every faculty member and student. He hoped that everyone would integrate sports into “daily courses” to develop lifelong habits.

LI Rongsheng presided over the opening ceremony.

Thirty phalanxes composed of various colleges, faculty groups, etc. passed the rostrum in turn to accept inspection. For the first time, an alumni phalanx participated in the parade.

LI Chao took the oath on behalf of the referees, SUN Shifan took the oath on behalf of the athletes, and LIU Songzuo, leader of the Sports Ethics Award Evaluation Group, read out the evaluation criteria for the Sports Ethics Award.

Fierce Competitions Ignite the Stadium

Twenty-five teams competed in 54 events including field events, track events, and mass sports events.

Referees and athletes devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the intense and fierce competitions.

Wonderful Art Performances

Faculty members and students from 8 colleges and associations presented multiple programs including street dance, gymnastics, and drum performances, showcasing the fruitful achievements of the school’s sports culture construction and allowing the audience to appreciate the beauty of sports.

220 students taking martial arts courses performed “Martial Rhythm · Tai Chi”.

217 students participated in the aerobics performance, and 5 graduate aerobics students demonstrated difficult movements such as throws and lifts.

Faculty members performed the 9th set of radio calisthenics.

Children from the Kindergarten of HEU performed a large-scale group calisthenics full of childlike fun and vitality.

Alumni Return to Alma Mater

This year, the alumni phalanx made its debut in the opening ceremony parade.

Moment of Glory

After fierce competition, the College of Power and Energy Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, and the College of Nuclear Science and Technology won the top three places in the student men’s team total score respectively; the College of Information and Communication Engineering, the College of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, and the College of Aerospace Engineering won the top three places in the student women’s team total score respectively; the College of Information and Communication Engineering, the College of Aerospace Engineering, and the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering won the top three places in the undergraduate student team total score respectively; HEU Logistics Group, the College of Shipbuilding Engineering, and the Party Committee of Organs won the top three places in the faculty team total score respectively; the Yantai Research Institute, the College of Nuclear Science and Technology, and the College of Underwater Acoustic Engineering won the top three places in the graduate student team total score respectively. XU Qing from the College of Mathematical Sciences broke the faculty men’s 200-meter record with a time of 25.12 seconds. Ten colleges including the College of Shipbuilding Engineering won the Sports Ethics Award.
