Recently, the "Changgong 1" and the "Changgong 2" trans-medium flying submersibles built by the National Key Laboratory of Underwater Robot Technology of HEU made successful test flights. The People's Daily, Science and Technology Daily, China Youth Daily, and CCTV News, more than 20 national, provincial, and municipal media outlets reported on it.

In October, on the sparkling water of Longfengshan reservoir in Wuchang City, “Changgong 1” dove underwater and began its autonomous trans-regional voyage. After more than 40 seconds, the propeller cut through the water and the familiar motor sound was heard. Then “Changgong 1” emerged from the water. With the water discharged from the body, “Changgong 1” automatically adjusted its flying attitude and quickly flew into the air, completing the water-air trans-medium process and achieving stable flight in the air as expected.

In 2021, with the support of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the team carried out technical research on submarine-air trans-medium unmanned vehicles. At the beginning of the design, the team discussed the flight configuration scheme many times. They made a comprehensive comparison, analysis of mission capability, application prospect and technical feasibility of the multi-rotor, tilt-rotor and fixed wing configuration schemes. Finally, they determined the fixed wing flight configuration scheme.
