The final of the 2022 BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest, hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the People's Government of Fujian Province, and the People's Government of Xiamen City, was recently held in Xiamen. Professor LIU Long, from College of Power and Energy Engineering of HEU, won the second prize for the “green cycle track” for his “two-stage thermal cycle ammonia fuel linear engine” project. Professor Liu's project second place finish was selected from 1,330 entries.
Professor LIU Long's team, based on the ammonia fuel combustion mechanism and technology of the key project of National Natural Science Foundation led, aimed at the renewable and zero carbon emission new fuel, overturning the "single cylinder" thermal cycle theory of traditional internal combustion engine. The goal was to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals and realize zero carbon emissions in transportation, engineering machinery, mining vehicles, and land power station engines. This is the first time the theory and technology of linear "two-cylinder" thermal cycle was proposed.
The project realized the efficient and stable combustion mechanism and control mechanism of ammonia fuel, and made the high-power internal combustion engine “burn” healthier, safer, and more powerful. The zero-carbon efficient two-order thermal cycle ammonia fuel linear engine was developed, which theoretically improved the thermal efficiency of the internal combustion engine from 45% of the traditional internal combustion engine to more than 60%. And has the advantages of small size, low price, zero emissions, its economic and ecological benefits are immeasurable.
