Recently, the results of the 2022 Moon Faltinsen Best Paper Award were released, and the paper “Non modal Growth of Finite-amplitude Disturbances in Oscillatory Boundary Layer” written by Gong Minjiang, a 2020 doctor of College of Shipbuilding Engineering, HEU, won the best paper award.

This paper was published in Journal of Fluid Mechanics in June 2022 and coauthored by Dr. Gong Minjiang, Associate Professor Xiong Chengwang, Professor Wang Shiping, and Professor Zhang Aman of College of Shipbuilding Engineering, Professor Mao Xuerui of Beijing Institute of Technology, and Professor Cheng Liang of South China University of Technology/ The University of Western Australia.

Moan Faltinsen Best Paper Award is an international award established by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2014 to celebrate the 70th birthday of Professor Torgeir Moan and Professor Odd Magnus Faltinsen, two world-renowned outstanding scientists in the field of shipbuilding and ocean engineering.

This is the 2nd time for the fluid structure coupling technology research team of HEU's College of Shipbuilding Engineering to win the award. The team also won the best paper award in the field of structural mechanics after winning the Moan Faltinsen in 2021. It also marks the teams outstanding achievements in guiding and encouraging graduate students to carry out high-level original basic research. The paper was supported by the "Basic Science Center of Marine Engineering Equipment" of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the "Research on the Mechanism of Vortex induced vibration of submarine multi span flexible pipeline" of the Youth Fund.
